Why I LOVE leggings with pockets!

Just as the title of this blog suggests, I love leggings. And I love them even more with pockets!

Why this hasn’t been thought of sooner I don’t know… but I’ve been lucky enough to find this Australian-owned brand: La Sculpte. They make activewear, shapewear, underwear, swimwear and beachwear with real women in mind, a broad range of sizes, and designs to suit a variety of functionalities.

I have a pair of their Full Length, Laser Cut Tights, with pockets, in a dark forest green colour (and next year they will have them in black too, made from recycled fabric materials!). You can check them out here. Continue reading below to find out exactly why I love them, and see a special discount code for 15% off created exclusively for Essential Me customers… and you get free shipping and returns for orders over $50!

So… the fabric is made of 76% Polyester and 24% Elastane, which I find gives me the perfect amount of stretch.

They are:

  • Light weight

  • The fabric offers a 4-way stretch

  • Moisture wicking, quick drying and breathable

  • Gently flatten your tummy and sculpt your wait using a shaping powernet mesh

  • Detailed with laser-cut patterns along the side for added ventilation

  • Complete with two large side pockets - big enough to carry your smart phone

I love them because:

  • They are super comfortable

  • They don’t fall down

  • They blur out any imperfections in my thighs (goodbye cellulite!)

  • They do not dig in to my tummy to create that bulge over the top of the pants

  • I can pop my phone, lip balm, keys and anything else essential in my side pocket and not feel weighed down

  • They are perfect to wear to a birth with my Doula clients (super comfy and can keep things in the pockets to be hands free)

  • As a Mum, I can be out and about with my kids with easy access to important things in my pockets without having to carry my heavy handbag around

  • For you as a new Mum, they are handy to wear at home, out and about, when exercising (perhaps a Postnatal Recovery Pilates class at home with Pilates With Purpose) and as an easy transitional pair of leggings that help you feel like you took the effort to get dressed and aren’t stuck in PJs all day.

Who can look past both comfort and practicality?!

Next year, the brand will be releasing a post birth recovery garmet that will help to add firm pressure around your abdomen to reduce abdominal muscle separation, and help you feel supported in those early days while your body takes the time it needs to recover. I had a sneak peak at the La Sculpte showroom of their samples. One is designed for post vaginal birth, and the other for after a cesarean with a zip down the side. Don’t fret about the colours in this picture though (the last thing I wanted after having a baby was to wear beige!!), as they will come in black too. And note the double gusset so you can access the bathroom without having to take them on and off each time. You’d be able to wear underwear under these as well - important for the first 6-ish weeks postpartum when you’re still bleeding… however when you feel you don’t need a pad or liner anymore, the gusset is cotton lined and easy to wash (so you don’t have to wear it with underwear if you don’t want to).
